Funding verification

A round is a set of checkable claims. Until those claims are sourced, it is not a story on this site. This page is a working draft for legal review.

Before a round is public

We want the amount, the currency, the date, and the parties we name to rest on at least one of the following: a company statement, an investor statement, a filing, or a reputable independent report. One of those is the minimum. Two that agree are better. A forwarded deck is not, by itself, enough.

What stays blank

Investors who are not in the source are not guessed. A series letter that the source does not use is not invented. “More than” stays “more than” when that is the wording. Use of funds is included only when someone in a position to know has said it, and we say who.

Where an unverified tip lives

Tips that are not yet verified are held in the editorial archive with the status pending verification or draft. They do not appear on the homepage, the funding tracker, category pages, or the sitemap. Publishing the URL would be publishing the claim.

Fund closes

A venture firm raising its own fund is labelled as a fund close, not as a startup round. Limited partners are named only when a source names them. A firm’s assets under management remain a firm claim unless independently checked.
