Asia startup funding in late 2025: selective months, concentrated cheques

October 2025 looked quiet or busy depending on who counted. India was the large number. Southeast Asia was an argument about method. This is a reading, kept apart from the figures.

The figures, as published

Three published counts anchor this piece. They are not our counts. DealStreetAsia reported that Indian startups raised $1.83 billion across about 100 deals in October 2025. The same newsroom reported about $320 million across 36 deals in Southeast Asia that month. Tracxn figures reported via e27, for a comparable Southeast Asian window, were $287 million across 14 rounds.

A reader who wants a single Southeast Asia number will not get one here. The honest statement is the range of published methods.

Why the Southeast Asia numbers disagree

They are not two measurements of an identical set. Deal count and inclusion rules differ: which stages count, what sits inside “Southeast Asia,” whether debt or secondary sales are in, and which day a round is dated. A count of 36 deals and a count of 14 rounds should not be averaged into a false consensus.

The sentence this desk will stand behind is narrower. Depending on who counted, published accounts of that month put Southeast Asia somewhere around $287 million to about $320 million, and somewhere between 14 and 36 transactions. The width of that range is the finding.

India was a different order of magnitude

$1.83 billion in one month in India, against a few hundred million dollars in Southeast Asia, is the clearest comparison the two DealStreetAsia reports support. Even that comparison assumes the reports used compatible currency and inclusion rules. They share a publisher. They are still separate reports. This analysis does not invent a full-year 2025 total by multiplying October.

Where the large company rounds sat

Two company records from the same month show how lumpy a total can be.

Zepto, in India, was reported by Reuters on 16 October 2025 at $450 million and a $7 billion valuation. Endowus, which said it operates in Singapore and Hong Kong, said on 22 October 2025 that it had raised more than US$70 million.

This analysis does not allocate either round into the DealStreetAsia totals. A reader should not subtract them from $1.83 billion or from $320 million unless a dataset says they are inside it. We have not performed that reconciliation.

Themes, labelled as a reading

Selective capital. Even the higher DealStreetAsia figure of 36 Southeast Asia deals does not describe a month in which every credible company raised. Large parts of the market are simply absent from the announced record. Absence from a monthly table is not the same thing as a company failing. It is a description of what was disclosed.

Singapore as a concentration of announced dollars, not a market-share statistic. Among the Southeast Asian company news verified for this archive in October 2025, the Endowus raise is a Singapore-linked wealth-technology round in a month when the regional dollar total was a few hundred million. One round is not a share of a market. It is evidence that announced dollars clustered, and that Singapore was one of the places an issuer in that cluster operates.

AI, fintech, and quick commerce, only where we have a story. The verified October company stories in this archive sit in quick commerce and wealth technology. AI shows up more clearly in Supabase’s April 2025 infrastructure round, and in the mandate of capital raised later. That is a map of this archive, not a ranking of every sector in Asia.

The 2026 signal is a fund close, not an October deployment. On 20 February 2026 Bloomberg reported that Peak XV raised $1.3 billion across three funds for AI and consumer startups in India and Southeast Asia. That fact does not change the October tables. It does say that an Asia franchise was still raising a large pool after a selective year. Capital formation and capital deployment remain different measurements. Treating the fund close as proof of 2025 deal volume would be a category error.

What this analysis will not do

It will not publish a median cheque, a down-round share, or a country-by-country split inside Southeast Asia. Those figures are not in the sources above. It will not call a month “a crash” or “a boom.” The sourced picture is more specific than either word: India carried the large announced total, Southeast Asia’s published totals depended on the counter, and a handful of companies accounted for cheques big enough to bend a monthly headline.
